"ART is a VERB,
way before it becomes a noun."
projects on a regular basis as well as remember that jumping in and doing something to create everyday holds a great importance.
With the rising population of non-profit organizations and collaborative spaces, the message is very poignant…don't lose the idea that the art has to be made, way before it's discussed.
It's amazing to see how much can get done in a few hours with just a handful of active and interested people. For the artists, it was a chance to meet other area artists and engage in a dynamic that can be sometimes lost in a studio environment, and the action that all but disappears on the gallery floor or in a meeting. The process is held in the highest regard.
A few passing visitors (like 5 year old Jane) hung around longer and chipped in, some other folks stopped and thanked the group for making the neighborhood more beautiful and interesting…
(and one tipsy woman that yelled a few times, but not at the artists)
The evolution of this garden over the course of this summer season is going to be one of the most interesting and unique art projects in Southern Maine this year, and it's completely free to walk by or take photos and enjoy it.
The garden, which Nancy affectionally calls "Scrabble-patch" is located on the Birch Street corner off of Alfred Street in Biddeford. Grab a photo when you are passing through and hashtag #scrabblepatch #artcouch or #modspoke so we can share your photos...and watch this art garden grow!
