Flight of the Dragonfly
Dazzling dragonfly, may I ride upon your wing?
Lighting here and there on everything,
Curiously investigating all,
Momentarily dancing under a waterfall.
Fly me through the fireworks display,
That bloom straight on from the month of May.
Whirling and twirling, round and round you go,
when summer is steaming you put on your show.
Teach me your secrets, they're safe with me.
No need to sew up my lips, you'll see.
Diving, diving in a steep dive down,
halting to hover just an inch above the ground.
My imagination is the place we can meet,
where I'll mount your wing and take my seat.
I'll hold my breath to the top of the trees,
then squeal with delight scattering bumblebees.
Sewing a pattern into the air, stitching up moments,
there's no time to spare.
Your magical colors rival the blooms,
as the end of summer heralds your doom.
When summer is over and it's time to go,
I'll dismount gently and give thanks for the show.
Hoping to see you again next year,
in my imagination where there is no fear.
